Peer Advisor Job Description

Reports To: Diane Flores, Program Coordinator, Career Services Center

Wage: Starting Wage $17.28/hour – with opportunity for wage increase each year

Period and Conditions of Employment: 2024-25 Academic Year. Must be an undergraduate student and intend to enroll in 6 or more credits of coursework during fall, winter, and spring quarters.

Required Training Schedule: (see detailed schedule below)

  • Hiring paperwork completion and 2-hour in-person training during spring quarter 2024
  • Combination of asynchronous and in-person training in September before start of fall quarter 2024 (in-person portion will be held the week prior to the start of fall quarter classes)

Work Schedule: Based on student class schedule each quarter and the needs of Career Services Center

  • 10-15 hours/week for 2024-25 academic year, during standard business hours Mon-Fri, 8am-5pm
  • Flexible schedules during prep week, finals, and over breaks
  • Some evening and weekend hours are required.

Description of Duties:

  • Support front desk operations, including responding to incoming calls, emails, and greeting visitors.
  • Work with students and alumni who visit the Career Services Center for appointments, resources, Career Closet visits, LinkedIn Photo drop-ins, and scheduling needs.
  • Help manage Career Closet, including donation intake, clothing sorting and restocking.
  • Represent Career Services Center at campus events, such as info tables and outreach activities.
  • Support career fairs, including setup/breakdown, greeting employers, checking in participants, etc.
  • Review professional documents (resumes, cover letters, etc.) for students and alumni, providing constructive feedback, via email and face to face, during in-person and virtual appointments. *
  • Conduct mock interviews (virtual and in-person) for students and provide constructive feedback. *
  • Conduct student club and class presentations to build awareness of Career Services Center resources and services and promote career fairs. *
  • Other miscellaneous duties as needed.

*As a Peer Advisor, you will be trained on resume and cover letter reviews, mock interviews, and delivering class/club presentations.

  • Customer service oriented.
  • Willingness to be flexible and manage multiple tasks.
  • Detail-oriented and strong time management skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing to provide constructive feedback to peers.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, comfortable engaging with diverse populations.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, and Excel.
  • Experience using virtual meeting software (MS Teams, Zoom, etc.).
  • Ability to meet requirements listed in the Period of Employment, Required Training Schedule, and Work Schedule sections at the top of this job description.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Handshake.
  • Experience in public speaking and outreach.
