Advising
The Health Professions Advising office at Western provides comprehensive and inclusive mentoring and advising to students and alumni interested in pursuing careers in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, optometry, nursing, physician assistant, chiropractic, and veterinary medicine, as well as allied health careers.
For students interested in physical therapy, occupational therapy, or nutrition advising please contact Health & Human Development. For detailed descriptions of each health professions pathway, please visit our university catalog pathways page.
We offer a wide range of services to help students gain admission to the professional school of their choice, including individual advising appointments, assistance with finding clinical experience, mock interviews, and more.
Canvas Site
We have a Canvas site for students interested in learning more about how to pursue the health professions, including tips on fulfilling extra-curricular requirements and exploration activities. This site also provides updates on workshops, events, and work and volunteer opportunities. If you are a current WWU student and want to join our Canvas site, please email prehealth@wwu.edu with your name, W number, WWU email, and healthcare area of interest.
Pre-Requisite Coursework/Health Professions Pathways
All healthcare programs require some level of prerequisite coursework, including math, science, and social sciences. You can find details about requirements for healthcare fields in the general University Catalog. If you don’t see your area of interest listed, contact a Health Professions Advisor to build a pathway that fits you.
