Career Workshops & Presentations

The Career Services Center collaborates with faculty, staff, and student organizations to deliver engaging professional development workshops and presentations. Our presentations can be customized to fit your classroom, meeting, or event, fostering a collaborative learning environment and promoting the significance of career development among students.

Career Service Center Workshop Descriptions

Students will learn about resources to assist them in clarifying their interests and career values, identifying their skills, and exploring the endless number of opportunities that are available to them after graduation. This workshop can include tailored information about connecting major to career.

 

Students will learn the basics of resume writing, whether they are starting a resume for the first time or improving a current draft. Information includes incorporating accomplishments and skills from their experiences (education, extracurricular activities, internship/past work, etc.). Participants will also learn tips for tailoring their resume for specific positions. 

 

Students will learn the basics of cover letter writing: why submitting a cover letter is important when applying to jobs and internships, how to tailor to specific positions, and how to incorporate skills gained from their experiences (education, extracurricular activities, internship/past work, etc.).

Students will learn how to personalize their free account, search for jobs and internships, connect with employers, and attend events. 

Introduce your students to the Career Services Center! Students will participate in a tour of our space in Old Main 280 (including our interview rooms and Career Closet), meet some of our staff, and get an overview of the services we offer. 

Students will learn how to prepare for and navigate the Career Fair so they can participate with confidence and come away with results! The workshop includes information on how to prepare an introduction (elevator pitch), evaluate employers to connect with, and information on what to expect at the career fair.

This workshop uses the NACE Career Readiness Competencies to help identify all the great skills and accomplishments tucked away in students’ experiences, from coursework to clubs to campus employment! 

Using the Dependable Strengths Articulation Process, this highly interactive workshop provides students with the opportunity to share their experiences, brainstorm collaboratively, and identify their top strengths. There is excellence in everyone!  Workshop timing will be determined on a case-by-case basis in the pre-meeting discussion. Expect at least 1 hour of interactive time for this workshop. 

Networking is a great way to explore career paths and industries, and to find out how professionals have made it to where they are today. Students will learn the basics of networking and take away concrete steps for growing their network right away! 

This workshop will share tips with students on how to prepare for an interview, including common questions to prepare for, strategies for practicing responses, and how to brainstorm questions they should ask.

Learn how to optimize sections, showcase skills, and highlight achievements to attract employers and build a strong personal brand. 

Students will explore how to connect with alumni, industry professionals, and peers, and leverage these connections for internships, mentorships, and career opportunities. 

Students will learn essential job and internship search strategies and valuable resources to discover a wide range of opportunities, from internships to full-time positions. 

Students will learn how to craft a compelling LinkedIn profile, expand your professional network, and effectively utilize the platform for job searching and standing out in a competitive job market.  

Students will learn the fundamentals of graduate program research, things to think about as they explore options, and questions to reflect on.
