Updated Career Services for 2025-26
The Career Services Center is committed to supporting WWU students and alumni in planning for and navigating life after graduation. Following a significant staffing reduction, we have restructured to focus on the most critical services, leverage partnerships, and utilize technology to scale our offerings.
Below, you’ll find a list of services continuing in 2025–26, areas where changes are being made, and services under review or being discontinued. We will update this list as additional changes occur. Our goal is to provide clarity and highlight opportunities for collaboration as we adapt.
We appreciate your understanding and flexibility as we navigate these changes.
Updated Career Support for Students & Alumni
The Career Services Center can no longer provide access to or interpretation of the Strong Interest Inventory and Dependable Strengths assessments due to the extensive preparation and individualized support required for effective interpretation.
Students and alumni can still use free, online, self-guided assessments to explore their interests, values, and skills and connect them to potential careers. They can then meet with our team during Career Center Virtual Drop-Ins for a brief discussion of their results and guidance on next steps.
Students and alumni can still use the Career Closet for free professional clothing. We’ve updated how this resource is available: instead of scheduling an appointment, visitors can drop in anytime between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. (last entry at 4:00 p.m.) on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. The Career Closet is located in the Career Services Center in Old Main 280.
Use is on a first-come, first-served basis, with a maximum of one hour per visitor. If someone is already in the Career Closet, others will need to wait until the space becomes available.
The Career Services Center will be hosting our quarterly, All Industries Career & Internship Fairs. These fairs welcome a variety of employers from any industry and are open to all students, alumni, staff and faculty.
Discussions with campus partners about continuing specialty career fairs in winter quarter are ongoing. Meanwhile, the Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Engineering & Design departments are co-hosting the Fall 2025 Tech Career Fair on November 4th from 9:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
Please stay tuned for more information on the Environmental, Sustainability and Energy Career & Internship Fair and the Education Career Fair.
Previously, the Career Center offered tailored resources through two separate Canvas courses—Career Resources for Seniors and Career Resources for First-Year & Transfer Students. We’re excited to announce that this content has been combined into a single course, with tailored sections for different student groups. All current students will be automatically enrolled!
The Career Development Toolkit will launch on the first day of classes, Wednesday, September 24.
Guidance with choosing or changing a major will be provided by Academic Advisors in the Academic Advising & Student Achievement Center (AASAC).
The Career Services Center no longer provides feedback on Curriculum Vitae (CVs) or personal statements. Students and alumni can instead use the resources and support available through the Hacherl Research & Writing Studio.
For general, self-service guidance you can visit The Curriculum Vitae (CV) page and Writing Personal Statements.
- Students interested in graduate school can meet with a representative from the WWU Graduate School to explore programs at WWU or other institutions and learn about the application process.
- You are also encouraged to connect with faculty in programs you’re interested in, whether at WWU or elsewhere. For example, if you’re considering a master’s in Art History, a WWU Art History professor can offer valuable insights based on their own experience, even if WWU does not offer that program.
- For general self-service guidance, including tips for preparing application materials, visit the Going to Graduate School page.
- You can also submit questions through Ask a Viking to get insights from WWU alumni who have taken that path.
- For feedback on your Curriculum Vitae (CV) or personal statement for the graduate school application process, you can make use of the Hacherl Research & Writing Studio.
WWU's Health Professions Advisor has moved to the Academic Advising & Student Achievement Center (AASAC). The Health Professions Advisor supports students and alumni interested in medicine, dentistry, nursing, veterinary, optometry, pharmacy, chiropractic, and physician assistant training, as well as those interested in allied health careers.
Students interested in Physical Therapy, Nutrition, or Occupational Therapy should contact the Health and Human Development department.
Get individual career support through virtual drop-ins on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 1:30–3:30. Learn more on our Career Center Virtual Drop-Ins page.
Please note: Appointments with the Career Services Center are not currently available.
While we no longer offer individual 50-minute mock interviews, students and alumni have several ways to prepare.
- Online, self-service Interviewing Resources.
- Join Career Center Virtual Drop-Ins for quick guidance and practice with a few questions.
- Look out for our new interview practice technology tool (expected launch date announced fall quarter).
- Interviewing Clinic (in development): Students will have the opportunity to practice with volunteer interviewers
- Leverage your existing network—or start building it today. Friends, family, WWU staff and faculty, and alumni can all be valuable resources!
The Career Services Center can no longer support class assignment resume reviews due to the administrative burden, high volume of submissions during peak periods, and the challenge of meeting assignment deadlines.
We will continue to provide resume and cover letter support through the following options:
- Individual resume & cover letter reviews via email – feedback provided by our trained student employees.
- In-person feedback at quarterly Resume Clinics – students and alumni can drop in anytime during clinic hours.
- Face-to-face feedback during Career Center Virtual Drop-Ins – first-come, first-served. This is expected to be a high-demand service, as it offers one of the few opportunities for private, individual guidance.
- Workshops – Resume Makeover and Cover Letter Crash Course workshops offered hybrid.
- Self-service online guidance – available on the Career Services Center’s Resume and Cover Letter webpages.
- Alumni support via Ask A Viking – submit questions and receive guidance from WWU alumni.
- Tools and guidance in the SkillsFirst Resume Builder – free access for all WWU students and alumni.
- AI Resource Guide – use the Resume & Cover Letter Optimization section of the AI Resource Guide.
The Career Services Center discontinued this service in Spring 2025. Fortunately, our colleagues in Marketing & Communications will be offering professional headshots suitable for LinkedIn and other professional needs.
Headshots will still be available at the All Industries Career & Internship Fairs (12:00–2:00 PM only). In addition, Marketing & Communications plans to offer monthly open-house hours for drop-in professional headshots. More details on this new service will be shared soon.
Tailored presentations and workshops (previously requested by faculty, staff, and student groups) are not currently available. Students and alumni can still access career education content through our existing career readiness workshops. These workshops cover high-demand topics—such as career exploration, resume writing, cover letter guidance, and job & internship support—and are now being offered more frequently. Check the CSC Events page
for current offerings.
Students and alumni can also find a wealth of resources on the Career Preparation tab of our website, as well as access other self-guided, online resources, including the
- Career Development Toolkit (a Canvas course automatically available to all students)-launches Wed, Sept 24th!
- Guide to Post-Graduation Success (GPS)
- AI Resource Guide
We also encourage faculty, staff, and student groups to invite guest speakers to classrooms, events, or meetings. Some ways to connect with potential guest speakers include:
- Connect with WWU alumni through Ask A Viking,
- Leverage existing network, alumni, and employers using LinkedIn,
- Meet employers at the quarterly career & internship fairs.
- Reach out the Alumni Relations team or Director of Corporate Relations.
The Career Services Center will no longer participate in this program. Previously, we assisted with collecting, distributing, and promoting this service, which allowed graduates to donate used graduation gowns and soon-to-be graduates to borrow gowns for their upcoming ceremonies.
The future of this service is still under discussion with campus partners, and updates will be shared as they become available.
Supporting Students with Updated Career Resources
We'd appreciate your help to make this a smooth transition—for yourself, your colleagues, and your students. Here's how:
- Familiarize yourself with our updated resources (above) so you know what is available and what has changed.
- Review your materials—including printed resources, websites, and Canvas courses—to ensure any references to scheduling appointments with the Career Center are updated to “Connect With Our Team”, and that all information accurately reflects our updated services.
- Direct students to our Workshops, Career Center Virtual Drop-Ins, and other self-service online resources.
- Adapt assignments (such as resume reviews or mock interviews) for peer or alumni review instead of sending entire classes to the Career Center.
- Continue creating opportunities to bring alumni, employers, and other partners into your classrooms and events.
- Reach out to the Career Services Center, with any questions!
